Cizumab 100 mg Injection contains Cimzia (generic name: Certolizumab pegol), which is a biologic medication used to treat various autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. It is a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor that works by blocking the action of TNF, a substance in the body that causes inflammation in autoimmune diseases.

Common Uses:

Cizumab (Certolizumab pegol) is primarily used to treat:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis: To reduce symptoms and prevent joint damage in adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Psoriatic Arthritis: To treat active psoriatic arthritis and reduce symptoms of inflammation.
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis: To treat the inflammatory condition that causes the spine to fuse, reducing pain and stiffness.
  • Crohn's Disease: To reduce inflammation in the intestines and manage symptoms of Crohn’s disease.
  • Ulcerative Colitis: For the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis in adults.
  • Non-infectious Uveitis: For certain types of eye inflammation, particularly in patients with uveitis.
Mechanism of Action:

Cizumab (Certolizumab pegol) is a monoclonal antibody that targets tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), a protein involved in systemic inflammation. TNF-α plays a central role in the inflammatory response in many autoimmune diseases. By inhibiting TNF-α, Cizumab helps reduce inflammation and tissue damage in affected areas, such as the joints, intestines, and eyes.

Administration:
  • Cizumab is administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting.
  • The infusion is typically given over 30 minutes.
  • The dosage and frequency of administration depend on the condition being treated. For example, for rheumatoid arthritis, the typical initial dosing schedule might include infusions at 0, 2, and 4 weeks, followed by regular infusions every 4 weeks thereafter.
Common Side Effects:
  • Upper respiratory infections (e.g., sore throat, sinus infections)
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Rash
  • Increased risk of infections (due to suppression of the immune system)
